SEEKING GREAT CHEF RECIPES FOR STATE FAIR CHEESECAKE CONTEST

The Ohio Poultry Association and the American Dairy Association, Mid-East in conjunction with the Kroger Company are opening up their annual Ohio State Fair “SMILE AND SAY CHEESECAKE” Recipe competition to certified culinary professionals this year. The contest, which has been held for the last five years and open only to consumer competitors, is seeking creative and delicious entries from some of Ohio’s best culinary experts. Contestants must be a working chef or culinary student to enter and compete in the PROFESSIONAL class of the contest.
The contest will be held on Friday morning, July 31st at 10am in the DiSalle Culinary Arts and Crafts Building. In past competitions, more than fifty competitors have vied for the prize money, but this year the ante has been raised to a $300 first prize, $200 second and $100 third place finish for any culinary professional or culinary student winning in the professional class.
Restaurants or business signage will be allowed during the judging of the professional class and recipe samples are encouraged to share with the audience. Each cheesecake must contain at least “four fresh OHIO eggs” and “real dairy” products. Judging by a panel of food professionals will use the following guidelines: Creativity (30%); Taste (30%); Appearance (20%); Ease of Preparation (10%); and General Appeal (10%).
To enter the contest, visit www.ohiostatefair.com, click on Competitions, then Creative Arts, and then Culinary. Follow the instructions for entering the contest. Entries are due by June 20.
Here’s a great opportunity to win a few dollars, and have your cheesecake recipe photographed and promoted in various Ohio newspaper food pages. If you are working with culinary students, then make this a class project. Each entry will receive an Egg/Dairy Industry gift bag and a $10 gift certificate from Kroger to help recoup the ingredient expenses.
