OHIO STATE FAIR COMPETITION DEADLINES RAPIDLY APPROACHING Competition Deadlines
Columbus, May 19, 2009
Deadlines are quickly approaching for those interested in being a part of the numerous contests and competitions at the 2009 Ohio State Fair.
Completed entry forms must be postmarked as follows:
May 20
Spelling Bee presented by Ohio Lottery - Each participating Ohio school may recommend one student per grade (3rd through 8th).
May 22
Fine Arts Show - Amateur and professional divisions in a wide variety of categories are offered to Ohio residents over 17 years of age as of June 1, 2009.
June 20
Livestock Division - Some of the Ohio State Fair's livestock classes include beef cattle, dairy cattle, llamas, rabbits, goats, sheep, poultry, wool and swine. Junior shows are open only to Ohio residents, while anyone can participate in the open classes.
Junior Fair Division - Non-livestock junior competitions open only to Ohio youth include 4-H, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire USA, FFA, Girl Scouts, Grange and Technology Education.
Creative Arts Division - Hundreds of competition classes including youth creative arts, baking, sewing, antiques, jewelry, fashion, food preservation, needlework and more will distribute thousands of dollars in premiums to winners.
July 1
Agriculture, Horticulture & Floriculture Division - Entries in the categories of floral design, homebrewed beers, vegetables, scarecrows, Christmas trees and more will be welcomed and honored in this set of competitions, open only to Ohio residents.
July 6
Baton Twirling Competition - An Ohio State Fair tradition, the Baton Twirling Competition gives solo baton twirlers, duets / pairs, parade corps, corps, twirling teams, dance twirl teams and show teams the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding talents.
July 7
Horse Show - Equine lovers can participate in several classes, including Percherons, Belgians, Clydesdales, Shires, Hackneys, American Miniature Horse, American Show Pony, Shetlands, Haflingers and Saddlebreds. Open classes are available for everyone to participate.
July 18
Corn Hole Olympics tournament - A total of $900 will be distributed to winners of the four Corn Hole categories (18 Hole Cornie Golf, Quick 13, Perfect 60 and Doubles Tournament).
July 24
Cheerleading - This annual non-mount AmeriCheer and AmeriDance competition is open to Ohio squads.
Boxing Tournament - Amateur boxers from age 8 to 34 are invited to participate in the thrilling 42nd Annual Ohio State Fair Boxing Tournament.
August 1
Bench Press / Dead lift - Men and women from novice to master are invited to show their strength with the bench press and dead lift competitions. Entries are accepted through the day of the event, August 1.
Ohio State Fair 5K Run and Walk presented by the Ohio Physical Therapy Association - Returning for its second year, the Ohio State Fair 5K gives participants the opportunity to see the Fair from end-to-end. Entries are accepted through the day of the event, August 1.

The Ohio Expo Center is proud to host the Ohio State Fair. With a spectacular midway, big-name entertainment, hundreds of exhibits and one of the largest junior fair shows in the nation, the 2009 Ohio State Fair will run July 29 - August 9.
