OHIO STATE FAIR HALL OF FAME INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS
Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS, July 24, 2009

The Ohio State Fair will induct new Hall of Fame members on July 30 in the Rhodes Center Auditorium. Inductees are as follows:

· James Chakeres, II, Columbus

· Doug & Jenny Fenton, Winchester

· Joan Fernandez, Columbus

· Paul Mechling, Zanesville

· Linda Potts, Columbus

· Todd Raines, Seaman

· Dave & Jane Runyan, Bellefontaine

· Robert Taylor, Somerset



James Chakeres, II has 34 years of service and participation in the Ohio State Fair. He began as a junior and open sheep exhibitor in 1975. Throughout his years as an exhibitor, he also participated in 4-H demonstration contests, special veterinary science and horticulture and floriculture exhibits. Jim currently serves as the ag/hort director.



Doug and Jenny Fenton have participated in the Ohio State Fair for more than 40 years, including 4-H and open class exhibitions. The husband and wife duo exhibit Ayrshire dairy cattle along with beef cattle and swine. Their dedication and hard work can also be seen through their service as advisors to the Ohio Junior Ayrshire Association.



Joan Fernandez has dedicated 24 years of service to the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair. As a human resource assistant, Fernandez reviews applications, answers questions, helps with the hiring process and much more. She is always willing to help all who attend the Fair.



Paul Mechling has been a strong supporter of the Ohio State Fair for 20 years. He served as an Ohio Expositions Commissioner for several years, taking on the role of chair of the agriculture committee. Paul is an advocate for youth development and educational programs.



Linda Potts serves as a member of the Ohio State Fair Scouting Committee in which she is responsible for distribution of tickets and passes to participating scout units. Her 30 years of service have impacted many young lives.



Todd Raines has served the Ohio State Fair for 25 years. Best known for his work as the beef department director, he contributed to a successful showcase of cattle for Ohio’s beef industry.



Dave and Jane Runyan have been a part of the Ohio State Fair for more than 40 years. Their involvement includes everything Fair related, extending from exhibitors and employees to overall supporters. Dave has held numerous positions, starting as a barn boy and moving up to his current position as swine department director.




Robert Taylor served as the assistant superintendent of the Ohio State Fair sheep shearing contest for more than 40 years. He was also responsible for coordinating the 75th anniversary shearing contest at the State Fair in 2006.



The Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame was created in 1976 to recognize those individuals who have made the Fair a success and a premier expo each year. This year’s inductees will join with past inductees to create a Hall of Fame of 275 outstanding individuals.



Some well-known Hall of Fame inductees include former Governors James Rhodes, George Voinovich and Frank Lausche; former Speaker of the House Vern Riffe; Bob Evans Farms founder Bob Evans, and Wendy’s founder R. David Thomas.
