NEW FEATURES ADDED TO THE 2009 OHIO STATE FAIR New attractions
COLUMBUS, July 23, 2009
Numerous new activities will entertain and educate fairgoers at the 2009 Ohio State Fair. Events such as Wild About Monkeys, BMX Pros Bike & Board Trick Team and NASA Glenn’s “Journey to Tomorrow” mobile tour will be available for fairgoers to enjoy.
In addition to the traditional favorites at the Fair, new events for 2009 include:
Attractions:
Wild About Monkeys – Daily
Witness fun, educational and family-friendly entertainment featuring baboons, a baby capuchin monkey, a parrot and a leopard dog.
Mutton Bustin’ – Daily
The toughest sport on wool comes to the Ohio State Fair to challenge riders six and under to last six seconds on a sheep.
BMX Pros Bike & Board Trick Team Presented by WWHO – Daily
Watch and be stunned as unbelievable bicycle and skateboard aerial stunts are performed right before your eyes.
The Columbus Radio Controlled Racing Club Fair Shootout ’09 – July 31 through Aug. 2
Watch the intense action as the state’s best radio controlled car drivers compete for the gold in five different radio controlled classes. On August 3, come try your skills as they welcome the public to come and drive the cars!
NASA Glenn “Journey to Tomorrow” mobile tour – Daily
Get your chance to soar as you step foot into NASA’s newest traveling exhibit while they celebrate 100 years of powered flight.

The Ohio State Fair will feature street artists who create urban works of art at the Fair in front of the Cox Fine Arts Center.
Janis Center – Daily
This year, the Janis Center will house fun and educational activities such as an Ohio State Fair historical display, a youth scavenger hunt, a buckeye count competition and a garden-sized model railroad. The Ohio State Fair historical display focuses on the evolution of the Ohio State Fair since its inception in 1850. This year, the Janis Center is sure to please everyone.
The new midway ride, “Extreme”
Come to the Midway and be thrilled by the new ride “Extreme” presented by Amusements of America.
Boy Scouts of America - Daily
This year, Ohio’s Boys Scouts will be hosting numerous activities in the K12/Ohio Virtual Academy Youth Center, including a Pinewood Derby, Monkey Bridge, Climbing Wall and Jump House.
4-H AgBot Challenge – Aug. 1
Come watch teams compete with their robots as Ohio 4-H members design, construct, program and operate battery-powered robots for use in an agricultural simulation. The teams will be given tasks to complete to simulate tasks that might be required of a robot in a modern agricultural operation.
Columbus Crafty Cotillion – Aug. 8
The Columbus Crafty Cotillion Handmade Expo will be held from noon – 7 p.m. at the NBC4 Family Fun Stage and will feature handmade goods created by the members of the cotillion. Come support these crafters and shop for some creative handmade goods!
Earth Block – Daily
“Everything Old is New Again” as a low cost, energy efficient, 100 percent sustainable house is constructed out of Earth Blocks – an eco-friendly cement block alternative made from soil.
See for yourself how the Compressed Earth Blocks are made and observe the building process.

President Abraham Lincoln (Aug. 1-4, 8)
Feel like a part of history when you see this former president of the United States at the Ohio State Fair.
The Enchanted Wagon (daily)
A giant box turtle with a magical gypsy wagon on its back will roam throughout the Fair, giving various puppets the chance to pop out of the wagon’s windows and doors to entertain and interact with your family.
Steve Phillips (daily)
Ohio’s premier balloon twister can make more than 500 different balloon animals, objects and decorations such as a fruit basket, rainbow and numerous flashy hats.
Greg Frisbee (Aug. 4-7)
This creative and daring juggler will shock fairgoers with his outstanding and outlandish talents.
Michael Roy (daily)
This phenomenal origami artist can turn one square piece of paper into an amazing masterpiece, and some lucky fairgoers will be able to return home with a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
Rick Smith, Jr. (Aug. 4-7)
The astounding skills of this talented magician truly have to be seen to be believed!
Event Details:
The Ohio State Fair runs from Wednesday, July 29 through Sunday, Aug. 9. Gates will open at 9 a.m. every morning and close at 10 p.m. each night. On Sunday, Aug. 9, gates will close at 8 p.m.
