2009 OHIO STATE FAIR SALE OF CHAMPIONS RAISES MONEY FOR YOUTH Sale of Champions Results
COLUMBUS, August 09, 2009
COLUMBUS – The 2009 Ohio State Fair 42nd annual Sale of Champions Livestock Auction took place this afternoon in the Celeste Center. Grand champion meat chickens, market lambs, market barrows and market beef all took the stage for the auction.
“It’s a rewarding day for these hard working exhibitors, and I congratulate these fine youth and their families for producing such quality animals,” said Virgil Strickler, general manager of the Ohio Expo Center & State Fair. “We are greatly appreciative to the buyers who support these champion youth and the Youth Reserve Program.”
The Youth Reserve Program was established in 1995 to reward junior youth exhibitors who participate in the Ohio State Fair. The Youth Reserve Program is funded by dollars received over a cap placed on the amount exhibitors can earn from the Sale of Champions Livestock Auction. The Youth Reserve Program distributes the money among carcass contests, scholarships, the outstanding market exhibitor program, the outstanding breeding exhibitor program, showmanship, skillathons, dairy cattle, 4-H and FFA. Since its inception, the program has awarded more than 17,500 youth exhibitors more than $1.5 million.
